Auvergne Climate

The Auvergne has an excellent climate and low rainfall.

The spring is a beautiful time of year to visit; there are warm and sunny days
from around March onwards with the main rainfall tending to be in April and May.

Summers are hot, but not as burning as in the south, with temperatures reaching highs
of 40 C punctuated with short sharp thunderstorms.

Autumns are long and warm and the forests turn to magnificent shades of gold.

Winter arrives in December they are dry but sometimes bracing with temperatures as low
as -10 /-15 C. Snowfall can be metres thick in the mountains and can stay for three or four
months, but around the gites the roads are nearly always clear. Excellent winter sports can
be had only about one and half hours away by car.
